Practical Sanskrit Part 2

I suppose that 108 words just aren't enough. It's like potato chips. You can't eat just one, or, in this case, 108. Here are some other fairly useful Sanskrit words:

Samskara Deeply ingrained habit of the mind.

Dosha Impurity or fault.

Vata dosha Too much air tendency -- the native is too "spaced out."

4.

Pitta dosha Too much fiery tendencies -- the native is too aggressive or forceful.

Kapha dosha Too much earth and/or watery tendencies -- the native is too easy going or laid back. He/she likes just "hanging out" too much and dislikes doing anything.

Guna An essential quality of Nature.

7.

Sattwa guna Purity or heavenly quality.

8.

Rajas guna Active tendency.

9.

Tamas guna Too much inertia or sluggishness.

Masala Mixture.

11.

Gita Song.

12.

Bhagavan Lord.

13.

Purna Full.

14.

Anna Food.

15.

Bhoga (Worldly) enjoyment.

Roga Disease.

Yoga Union (between the individual soul and the Cosmic Soul.) Yoga also means "yoke."

Yogi One who seeks Yoga.

19.

Yogini A female Yogi.

20.

Dhyan Meditation.

21.

Diksha Initiation.

Pushpa Flower.

Parvata Mountain.

24.

Parvati Mountain goddess.

Rasa Blood (or juice.)

26.

Rakta Red blood cells.

Mamsa Muscle.

Medas Fat.

Majja Bone marrow.

Shukra Semen.

Sadhu The literal meaning is "good man." Usually, it refers to a renunciate monk.

Swami One who is possessed of his "Self." Swa means Self.

Gotra Traditional family -- used in pujas and yagyas.

Gandharva An angelic musician.

45.

Pranam To bow down to a person.

46.

Putra Son.

47.

Pitru Ancestor.

48.

Dhi Root word for meditation.

49.

Sama Same; even.

50.

Samadhi Enlightenment or an "even state of mind."

51.

Chit Consciousness.

52.

Ananda Bliss.

53.

Ahamkara Sense of self -- "selfishness.

54.

Buddhi Intellect.

55.

Bhratru Brother.

56.

Mleccha Outcaste.

57.

Shishya Disciple.

58.

Chela Disciple.

59.

Seva Service.

60.

Shruti That which is heard.

61.

Smriti That which is remembered.

62.

Akshara Syllable.

63.

Ishwara Lord.

Aham "I am."

Brahman The Absolute.
